BAM Racing Team Hosts Incentive Racing at BrickyardAugust, 2005 - for Immediate Release: BAM Racing Team Hosts Incentive Racing at BrickyardIndianapolis, IN, August 8, 2005 - Incentive Racing spent the weekend at the 2005 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, one of NASCAR's premier events, as the guests of Beth Ann Morgenthau, Tony Morgenthau, Ken Schrader and the entire BAM Racing team. Represented by Matt Meighan and Ken Zweigel, Incentive Racing received royal treatment all weekend long, beginning with parking in the infield of the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway and ending with a victory celebration on the famous Yard of Bricks with Tony Stewart and his jubilant victorious team. BAM Racing's Emory Vandiver, Director of Marketing, and Adrian Parker provided exclusive access to the inner circle of the NASCAR racing circuit all weekend long. Our weekend began on Friday afternoon when Emory guided us through the process of acquiring the NASCAR credentials for unlimited access to the garage area and pit road, including the renowned Gasoline Alley. We then drove our cars through the tunnels under the Speedway track into the infield parking lots at IMS, followed by the long walk to the garage area, which was bristling with activity as the teams prepared for that afternoon's scheduled practice session. Unfortunately, the weather was wet and practice was being delayed. While we waited for the track to dry and practice to begin, we were able to stroll throughout the garage area amongst team members including many of the most well-known drivers and owners. Emory showed us BAM Racing's hauler, as well as the garage area and pit road. Beth Ann and Tony Morgenthau, the team's owners, arrived at the hauler after having flown in from their home in South Florida. One of the advantages of being a guest of BAM Racing is that on a very hot Midwest summer afternoon we were able to enjoy the Schwan's Ice Cream products offered in the portable freezer at the entrance to the hauler. The # 49 hauler was very popular amongst all of the people in the garage area because the team lets anyone in the NASCAR family help themselves to the delicious and refreshing goodies. Beth Ann and Tony were so hospitable, we suspect that had the weather been cool they would have offered everyone slices of Red Baron Frozen Pizza, which was the team's primary sponsor for this particular race. We did however get to visit the catering tent with Emory and enjoy a plateful of the many items available. We were introduced to Larry Foyt, a former NASCAR driver who is being considered as driver of a second BAM Racing car next year, along with another Foyt clan racer, A.J. IV, from the Indy Racing League. Practice was officially canceled shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon, and was rescheduled for Saturday morning. Qualification for the race were pushed back from Saturday morning to the afternoon, and the race was declared an "impound race," which meant that the cars would be impounded after qualifications until race time on Sunday. The went to work to find the perfect set-up that would allow the # 49 car to qualify well and run well during the race. On Saturday, Ken Schrader drove a masterful lap early in the qualification process that held up for an 11th place start on Sunday. This was a great achievement for a one-car team competing against many multi-car powerhouses in one of the season's most important events. On Sunday morning, the excitement at the track was as hot as the Hoosier weather. The crowd arrived early and traffic on 16th Street and Georgetown Road around the Speedway was heavier earlier than in recent years despite a race start that was an hour later than in previous years. When the pre-race festivities ended and the race began, everyone in the BAM Racing pits had high expectations for the day. Unfortunately, an early mechanical problem with the clutch caused a loss of valuable track position, but the crew headed by David Hyder kept the car on the lead lap through some heady work during a series of pit stops. Schrader was forced to fight his way through the field for the rest of the day and he brought the Red Baron Dodge Charger all the way back up to the top 10, but he eventually fell back to a respectable 22nd-place finish. The story of the day was obviously hometown hero Tony Stewart's first win at the Brickyard, which put on a smile on just about everyone's face, including his fellow drivers. With our "Hot Pass" credentials provided by the team, we were able to get up close to Tony as he celebrated and recuperated while lying down on the outside wall underneath the starter's stand during his post-race interview over the track's public-address system. With a fender-to-fender late-race shootout between Stewart and Kasey Kahne, it was one of the most exciting races of the year, and was definitely the most intense NASCAR race ever held at the Brickyard. After the race, the team headed back to their race shop in Charlotte to prepare for the next race and we headed to the office to process the photographs of the weekend shown in the column on the right.
